This past Monday I had contractions every 2-4 minutes for almost 10 hours but I had zero progress so home I went.

Thankfully, the contractions stopped and yesterday I had an u/s. The boys are measuring at about 37 weeks at 5 pounds 10 ounces and 5 pounds 15 ounces! They look perfect. The kicker of the whole appointment was that apparently 3 weeks ago my high-risk doctor wrote in my chart that I should be induced at 36 weeks if the PUPPS was still bad. Well 36 weeks is today exactly and I was in the hospital TWICE this week and NO ONE mentioned that note in my chart! The Dr. Boley was like, "Well, if someone would have just read your chart you'd be scheduled for induction tomorrow!" This was slightly infuriating to find out however, it does mean that the end is in sight. Dr. Boley personally called my doctor and they called me back and said that I should come in on Monday at 4:00 p.m. for induction if I don't go into labor on my own before then!

Monday is the day and I'm so excited/nervous/overwhelmed etc. We can't wait. My next post may include pictures of 2 handsome little boys!!

36 weeks!!!!

Just a waiting game....

Still here. Still very pregnant ;-) It has been a trying week or so but we're still doing pretty good. I have found that I can now only sleep comfortably on the sofa so Josh, being the awesome husband that he is, pushed the sofa and love seat together so he could still sleep with me. Last night was the first time we tried it and I slept straight through the night! It's amazing how much better a full night's sleep makes me feel.

My rash was better or at least it went from "rip all my skin off" itchy to "regular" itchy for a few weeks but is now starting it's vicious cycle all over again. My legs are almost cleared up now but it has begun its reign of terror on my belly just like it did when I first got it at 30 weeks. At least this time around I know what works best to keep it as comfortable as possible.

I have non-stress tests and check-ups every Tuesday now. Baby B slept through the first one 2 weeks ago but since then they have been passing each test with flying colors. It's nice to lay there at the doctor's office and listen to each of their heart beats beating away so beautifully. I'm always in awe of what God created inside of me. I can't wait to meet these little guys!

So now we are in a waiting game. I could go into labor any moment and they'd probably do great. The doctor said he'd be happy with 35-36 weeks and if we get to 37 weeks they'll induce me. I have an ultra sound next Thursday (August 28th) which will put me right at 36 weeks so if I don't go into labor before then I'm sure we'll schedule an induction for the first week of September!!! I'm so excited and so ready but I'm trying to be patient and wait on God's and the boy's timing. I want to meet them but I want them fully ready to meet me!

Counting down the days....
34w3d! :-)

33 week belly pic

It's been a while so here is an updated belly shot. At my ultra sound yesterday I was 32 weeks 4 days and....

Baby A weighed in at 4 pounds 15 ounces and Baby B weighed in at 4 pounds 10 ounces! They each gained OVER a pound in 3 weeks. The doctor said between the babies, fluid and the placenta, I'm carrying about 12 pounds worth in my belly. Holy moly!

The good news about big, healthy babies is that my doctor said that he'd like me to make it to 37 weeks but he'd be just as happy if they came at 35 or 36 weeks too. He also said that I very well may go into labor between now and then because of how much weight my little body is carrying. That means I may be a momma in 2-3 weeks!! Holy moly once again! I'm a little nervous but so very excited to meet these guys. Wooohooo!

In other news, I'm managing the PUPPS ok. Tylenol PM is helping me sleep better which is most important. I actually slept all night long last night for the first time in a very long time. It was wonderful. Also, I know I'm way behind on my belly pics. I will be sure to post a new one next week. Read with caution.

So this nasty little rash started on my belly. And stayed there. For a good 2 weeks! Until this past weekend when it decided to go caaarazy and spread ALL OVER MY ENTIRE BODY. It is down my legs, all over my feet, up my arms and on my fingers, on my butt and spreading to my back. It's literally everywhere and getting steadily more itchy. I almost broke down at the doctor's yesterday but then she assured me that if we made it to 35-36 weeks and this rash was taking over my whole body, they might think of inducing me a little early. It's also looking like Baby B might not have a ton of room in there which would be another reason to allow these guys to come in just a few short weeks!

I had my first non-stress test yesterday and Baby B didn't do very well. His heart rate stayed pretty much the same for the entire hour+ I was hooked up to the monitors. During that amount of time it should have some accelerations and decelerations and it didn't. They aren't worried about it but it's why they think he might not have as much room to move around as Baby A does. Baby A passed the test with flying colors and I can feel him moving from my hip bones up to my ribs. He's taking up almost all the space in there! I have an u/s on Thursday and non-stress tests and check-ups every Tuesday from now on.

Pray for me. This rash is literally driving me mental and there are a few other things going on as well right now. I need strength, patience and.......reassurance. I need reassurance. Thanks.

32w3d

Some good news, some not so good news....

First the good news. All of my samples and tests came back negative so for now, they think it was just a hemorrhoid that bled out. Weird and gross but at least I don't have to go see a gastro. doc. I really didn't want to have to do that! I haven't had any other problems so I'm hoping the bleeding will be limited to that one time, lovely grocery store experience ;-)

And now the not so good news....

About a week ago my tummy started itching. It's completely normal for my tummy to itch, especially when the boys go through a growth spurt and my skin stretches some more, but it usually calms down after a day or two. This time it didn't. It got worse but I still assumed it was just the stretching. A friend even asked me, "Are you sure your doctors are ok with your skin looking like that?" I just assumed she was appalled by my lovely stretch marks! Finally this past Sunday I asked Josh to take a look. At this point I can only see the top of my belly so anything belly button and below is a mystery to me. Josh took a look and said, "I think you better look at this." He got me a mirror and much to my surprise I was growing a lovely rash that had probably been there for almost a week but I had no idea.

The two days after that were not very fun, especially at night. It itches so badly and if I give in and itch it, it burrrrrnsssss. I went to the doctor and they confirmed my worst fear: It's PUPPP or Pruritic urticarial papules and plaques of pregnancy. The reason this was my worst fear is because PUPPP has only one cure and that is birth. I am stuck with this nasty, painful, itchy rash until my wonderful little boys are born. Boo to that.

It really isn't so bad....until I try to sleep at night. The itching is unbearable at night, let alone relaxing my body enough to fall asleep. It has been a battle the last 3 nights and I'm sure it's just begun. PUPPP supposedly spreads to your chest and legs so the fun has just begun!

I'm trying to stay positive and think of all my blessings. I'm so grateful that so far, this is the biggest complication I've had in my very high-risk pregnancy. That in and of itself is truly a miracle to me. If this is all I have to deal with and in the end I come home with 2 healthy, beautiful babies, I will be one lucky, blessed individual.

Jesus thank you for this blessing and please give me strength to get through these next weeks. Oh, and if you could give me some will power over the itching that would be nice too! ;-)

31w3d

Warning: TMI

A week ago something kind of scary happened to me but I have to warn you, the following will include words such as rectum, blood and hemorrhoids etc. Stop reading now if it will be too much for you ;-)

Josh and I went to see The Dark Knight last Saturday around 12:30. It was a fantastic, twisted, suspenseful movie that I really enjoyed. The boys seemed to like it too. Between all the noise and their mom's adrenaline, they were moving like crazzzzy the entire time.

We had to stop at the grocery story right after the movie and when we got there I started to not feel well. I figured it was all the candy and popcorn I just ate, coupled with the emotion of the movie so I got some water and sat down for a minute and we kept going. I then had to use the bathroom so I found it and went. This is where it turns a little scary.....and gross. (Remember, this blog is for ME to remember everything, so I won't sugar coat ;-))

I had a regular bowl movement and felt better but when I went to clean up I looked down and the toilet and the TP was full of blood. Not just a little bit but similar to when a woman gets her period. Immediately freaking out because blood during pregnancy = bad, I cleaned up and tried to figure out where the blood was coming from. I was pretty sure it was coming from my rectum which made me feel a little bit better.

I got out of the bathroom, found Josh and told him what happened and immediately called the doctor. While I waited for the doctor to call me back I made myself go pee again. Again, any left over blood was coming from my rectum and not my vagina which is a very good thing. The doctor said she thought it was hemorrhoids and if anything else weird happened to come right in but otherwise I was told to go home and rest. So I did.

The rest of the day and the next two were completely normal. No bleeding, normal bowl movements, nothing to indicate what happened or what could have been the cause. I didn't have any pain to indicate hemorrhoids or anything like that. I had a doctor's appointment on Monday. The doctor did a rectal and vaginal exam (lots of fun!) and while he didn't feel any hemorrhoids either, he thinks that's what it had to be. I got to take a very fun, stool collection kit home and take samples of my self for the next three days and I have a follow-up appointment on Tuesday.

At my appointment the babies sounded good, both heart beats were strong, and they have been swimming away like normal all week long so I'm not really worried. The doctor did mention that I may have to go see a gastroenterologist which I really don't want to do but we'll see. This whole episode took place at 29w6d. I'm so grateful it was nothing more serious.

I have a check-up this Tuesday the 29th and another u/s the following Thursday on August 7th. End of nasty and awkward post!

30w6d!!!

7 pounds of baby!!!

So I had another u/s today and the boys' estimated weights are a whopping 3.6 and 3.8 pounds! If it's accurate (which it can be slightly off) they grew an entire pound in 3 weeks. I don't think they realize they have a very small mama. It certainly explains the discomforts and ready to burst feelings I've been having! I'm super glad they are growing so well though. It's the most important thing and they are doing great. The doctor said, "Well, keep doing whatever you've been doing as long as it's legal...cause it's working!" :-)

In other news, Baby B decided to turn head down like his brother! Baby A has been head down the entire time so I always thought I'd be able to try for a vaginal birth but with B in position too it makes it that much better. Stay put little boys! No more turning or flipping! ;-)

29w4d!!

More Pics and an Update

25 Weeks

27 Weeks

29 Weeks

29 Weeks Exposed!

Sorry for the crappy quality of my pics and as always, my bedroom is a mess. I should have made Josh take all of my belly pics somewhere nice where he could actually get good, clear shots. Oh well.

So as you can see from my 29 week shot I'm getting rather large and trust me when I say I can feel it. I want to be honest here, because as I've said before this blog is mostly for me. I want to remember everything. So with that being said this last week has been really hard. Every movement I make hurts. My back, hips, pelvis, feet etc. all hurt. I have been having braxton hicks contractions for a few weeks now and between them and the pain I really can't do a whole lot. I'm officially done doing dishes, cleaning floors, cleaning tubs and showers and a few other things simply because I just physically can't do it. It's really a bummer. At the same time I have to say that I married the most amazing man. He doesn't complain. In fact, the last time I did dishes, he was the one that said, "Babe, I think that was the last time you do dishes until after the boys come." He could see how much pain I was in. I love him so much. He is so excited for his little boys to come. Not only does he tell me that but I see the way he lights up whenever we take care of our nephew. He's going to be one amazing daddy.

So that's how I've been feeling. Things are still going really well. My feet only just started swelling which is awesome. I made it much further than I ever thought I would without swelling. Even now they are just a little bit swollen. Nothing too terrible yet. I have an u/s on Thursday so I'll update after that. Sorry if this post was a little negative sounding. :-)

29w2d!

I've been MIA

Wow, time is flying and I'm not posting. I need to get better at this as it is my mode to remember this crazy journey and everything that happens. If I'm not posting, how will I remember??

Anyway, I had another u/s since I posted last and everything still looks great. This time they were measuring 2.4 and 2.3 lbs! I can't believe how big they are getting but I can tell you my body is feeling it! One thing the doctor's are watching is that both of their little kidney's are slightly dilated. The doctor doesn't seem too worried yet. He thinks it's something that will go away on it's own. They might need to have an u/s on their little back's when they are born just to make sure. I'm praying they are normal before I even give birth. I'm not sure what it means if they stay dilated, but since the doctor isn't too concerned, I'm trying not to let it bother me!

At the u/s Baby B was moving like crazy which amazes me because I FEEL Baby A so much more. It is clear from the u/s's though that Baby B is the mover but he's positioned so that I don't feel him as much. The u/s tech was literally chasing him around, trying to get the measurements she needed.

I'm going to post new pictures soon but my goodness, am I feeling my size lately. It is getting harder and harder to do normal everyday things and being on my feet too long equals a terrible back ache. This past Monday I finally broke down and bought a support belt. It basically wraps around the bottom of my belly to hold some of the weight and take some of the pressure off of my back and let me tell you it has helped immensely. Not only does my back feel better but my belly and my feet feel better too. I'm so glad I bought it and I know I will need it over these last weeks.....

LAST WEEKS! I can't even believe it but if everything goes well I should only have about 7 weeks left until my little guys get here! I'm so excited, and I feel so very blessed to have made it this far without complications.

Thank you Lord for this gift! Help me to stay positive and give me strength to grow these boys for these last 2 months! They were actually even closer together this time at 1.7 lbs (Baby A) and 1.6 lbs (Baby B)!! Their tummies were the exact same size, their fluid levels were equal and both cords had normal flow. Everything looked great. The doctor said that normally, twin to twin transfusion would have developed by now so he thinks we will be officially in the clear for that if everything is still normal my next u/s which is on June 26th! It was so great to see them both again. I'm so relieved they are growing well so far. I only have 2 more weeks until I'm in the 3rd trimester!

I'm feeling pretty good still. I definitely need to get off of my feet more. I can actually feel my feet start to swell if I stand for too long but if I sit down for a little while, they go right back to normal which is a blessing. I'm still sleeping well at night and really besides just feeling very large, I feel great! I just get a little tired if I don't rest for a little while every day.

They have both been swimming around consistently the past few weeks which is a wonderful feeling. If all goes well I should only have 10-12 weeks left!

I also changed the look of the blog this week. I started this blog in the fall so those colors were appropriate but I think a summery look is better now. :-)

24w5d!

I forgot to post after my u/s!

Thanks to a comment I got, I realized I never posted about my follow-up ultra sound last week to check on Baby B's growth. When I got to the u/s the tech said that if it were just one baby it should be about a pound or 16 oz.'s but since it was twins she would expect them to be about 13-15 oz.'s which would be right on track.

Baby A was 16.1 oz.'s and Baby B was right with him at 15 oz.'s! We are so happy to know that at least for now, both babies are growing so well! They are as big as if they were in there themselves which is so great. I will continue to have u/s's every 3 weeks for a while to keep on top of things. TTTS can develop later on in the pregnancy so we need to watch but so far so good! :)

22w2d

First Half of the 2nd Tri Pics!

<img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; The appointment was great, everything looks perfect (for now, but I'll get to that in a minute) and the babies were swimming around and having a great time. Baby B was kicking Baby A in the head the whole time and Baby A was afraid of the u/s wand! He swam away every time it got near him ;)

When the tech started the u/s she said,

"Do you know the genders yet?"

I said no.

"Do you want to know?"

I said yes please :)

"Well if this one is a boy the other one has to be."

Whaaa??

So the first big news is that yes they are both boys! Healthy, and happy in there together :) The other big news is that they are identical! For those of you who were as ignorant as I regarding how twins come to be, fraternal twins are hereditary and identical twins can happen to anyone. They are just a random occurrence in nature and genetics have nothing to do with it. Fraternal twins actually run in my family so I have been totally assuming that my twins were fraternal as well. I was absolutely shocked to hear they are identical. They will need a DNA test after they are born but it's a pretty sure thing.

There are some potential risks associated with being an identical twin. My little guys are sharing a placenta (which is one of the indicators of them being identical). There is this lovely condition called Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome which basically means that one twin could "take over" the placenta so that the other baby does not receive enough nutrients. Right now they are at a normal rate and I have follow-up u/s's scheduled for May 19th and June 9th to see how these little guys develop. They were 8 oz.'s and 10 oz.'s at my last u/s.

I have been praying hard that they are close to the same size at both u/s's. They need to stay within 20% of each other. IF they don't, I start having u/s's every week, then twice a week, then every day until it's clear that the smaller baby would be safer outside the womb at which point they would be born very pre-maturely (probably sometime in July or early August at best). Here's hoping that everything goes well and they share the placenta nicely!

I have been feeling really good. I get a bit tired each afternoon but that's to be expected. I did have a period of about 4 days where I didn't feel either baby kicking or moving too much so the doctor let me come in and hear their heart beats on the doppler. We found both heart beats right away and I felt much better. They have been squirming away ever since then!

I have two new pictures to post which I will do over the next week or so. I have grown quite a bit since my first trimester pictures were posted ;)

20w1d!

Is it Wednesday Yet??

Our big ultra sound appointment is approximately 2 days away and it feels like an eternity. I can't wait to see our little ones and how they have grown since we saw them last which was 10 weeks ago! At this appointment they check all of the organs and take lots of measurements to make sure everything is developing correctly and they will also tell us if we are expecting little girls or little boys or both! We are holding our breath for Wednesday, April 30th at 12:45!!

I have been feeling lots of movement the last few days from both of the twins. It hasn't been as crazy as the soccer game that took place a few weeks ago but I'm feeling definite kicks and rolls in two different areas so that has been very cool. It is so relieving to feel them move, to know they are growing and thriving inside of me. I am constantly in awe of God's work within me. Absolutely amazing....

I'm afraid my blood pressure may be on the higher side. I have had a pretty consistent head ache for the last few days and today I'm even a little light-headed. I'm going this afternoon to check it out at CVS. Hopefully it's just 2nd trimester head aches and nothing more! Other than that I have felt great!

18w1d!!

Holy Movement Batman!

This is a very exciting post for me. Early this morning at approximately 5:00 a.m. I was awoken by very noticeable kicking! It was so noticeable in fact, that after laying there feeling it for almost 10 minutes I woke Josh up and he could feel it too! For the last two weeks I have been feeling slight rolling and flutters but I was never completely sure. There was no mistaking this. It felt like one of the babies was playing soccer in my uterus! I absolutely couldn't believe that we could both feel it from the outside as well. Even though it kept me up for a good hour, it was an amazing experience and I can't wait to feel it again. Kick little one, kick!

Now if we could get twin #2 to start flailing a little bit we'd be allllll set ;)

15w6d!!

Still here! Still growing!

So things have been relatively calm around here. I have my next check-up next Wednesday, April 16th. It is just a check-up though all they do is check blood pressure, urine, weight and listen to the heart beats on the doppler which is always wonderful. I did find out that our big ultrasound is scheduled for April 30th! So just 3 more weeks and we should know what these little guys are. I honestly have no idea although I think I lean more towards at least one boy. I've had a slight boy vibe since the beginning. ;)

I've been feeling much better these last few weeks. Not NEARLY as much nausea. I still get a wave of it every few days or so but really I feel great in that department. I'm starting to eat my normal foods and I even made dinner a few times lately! That is a huge accomplishment for me since January. I also have more energy. I still enjoy my naps but I don't NEED them like I did before which is nice. They weren't kidding when they talked about 2nd trimester energy and just feeling better than the 1st tri!

My tummy is growing at an incredible rate. I get comments all the time. I will probably post 2nd trimester pictures in two groups so that I can keep up with it so there will probably be new pictures up in a few weeks. I will say this though, I'm already growing out of a few of the maternity clothes I have. AT 15 WEEKS! It's crazy. I probably look about 7 months pregnant. As crazy and scary as it is (I mean, how big will I be in June and July??!!) I'm in love with my belly. It means the babies are growing and that is what's most important!

15w3d

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://joshandjune.blogspot.com/2008/04/still-here-still-growing.html' title='Still here! It was amazing and such a beautiful sound after how anxious I have been (the beats were 150 and 160....right on track!). The doctor said everything is measuring perfect.

Also, I'm basically in maternity pants full-time already. So much has happened over the last month it's insane but I'll do my best to remember all the details here.

I had my follow-up ultrasound at around 6w4d and what we suspected was a possibility came true: WE ARE HAVING TWINS! It has been sooooo surreal and crazy and exciting and overwhelming I can't quite describe it. Overall, we are so very exciting and praying for two happy, HEALTHY babies. It does throw a wrench into many of our summer and fall plans but that's ok. I won't be able to do nearly as much or go to just about any of the places I had planned because apparently carrying twins is a little bit more strenuous ;)

So as my tummy is growing at a crazy rate, we are slowly processing what twins means (TWO OF EVERYTHING) and doing our best to prepare mentally, emotionally, spiritually and financially for the reality of having two little babies come September. I have had 3 ultrasounds in total now, the last being at 8w4d and everything has been just perfect. At the last u/s I saw their hearts beating again and they were both wiggling around doing a little dance for me. It was truly beautiful and amazing. I wish Josh could have been there to see it. He was there for the second ultrasound when we found out it was twins but was unable to take off of work for the third.

In other news, I have still been sick this whole time. I'm not vomiting but I'm just constantly nauseous. If I don't make myself eat something just about every hour, it's much worse so I'm an eating crazy person even though I feel so sick to my stomach. With twins, I'm supposed to gain a pound per week, so by 24 weeks (June 8th) I'm supposed to have gained 24 pounds! Hopefully I'm up for it because good weight gain means healthier babies in the end!

I will try and not let an entire month go by before my next post. I also want to upload some belly pictures to chronicle the crazy growth I'm experiencing. Whew!

9w6d

Ughhh, I may just vomit

Well nausea has set in full force the last two days. It takes a lot of work to walk around and interact with people like nothing is wrong. If my family were paying attention they probably already think something is up because I definitely haven't been myself but they don't seem too suspicious yet. I ordered preggie drops to help with the nausea and they should be here next week. I'm really hoping they help because I do not want to start throwing up. Grosssssss.

In other news I had some spotting last Sunday which sent Josh and I into a whirlwind of appointments and worry. I had an ultrasound which basically told us nothing because it was way too early. I kind of wish they hadn't given me the ultrasound because it made me worry for no reason. All we saw was a yolk sac and it freaked me out only to come home and do some research which told me that at 5 weeks (which is what I was) all we would have seen was a yolk sac! After the ultrasound I had to have my betas checked twice within 48 hours. Betas measure how much pregnancy hormone is in your blood and it should close to double every 48 to 72 hours. My first beat was 10,619 (super high but I'll get to that in a minute) and my second one was 19,170! I have another ultrasound scheduled for next Thursday (February 7th) and the nurses think that everything will be just perfect and we'll probably get to see a heartbeat! I am beyond excited for it and also a bit nervous. Grow little baby grow!!

As I mentioned above my betas were extremely high for how far along I am and it should be mentioned that twins run in my family. Fraternal twins are the type that are hereditary and only if it is on your mother's side. Well, there are two sets of fraternal twins on my mother's side and high betas can possibly, just maybe indicate multiples. The ultrasound this coming Thursday is getting more exciting every day. I can't wait!

5w6d

We did it!!

It's official! Josh and I are expecting our first on September 28th, 2008! We are beyond excited and praying for a sticky, healthy baby.

I started this blog as a place to record my experiences throughout this journey. I want to remember every detail, every twinge, pain, flutter and anything else that happens along the way. I have been waiting for this experience my whole life and it is finally here. I can barely believe it.

We found out a little over a week ago and since then I have had a few symptoms. In the first few days I had very weird cramping. It felt like something was pushing and pulling on my uterus. I have also had a little bit of nausea but not too bad yet (It's early though!). It mostly comes in waves and then passes after a few minutes. I have found that I need to keep something in my stomach. I get to feeling pretty crappy if I get too hungry. And last but not least my boobs are killing me! I can't even begin to describe it. It is not the typical pms type pain.

I feel so blessed to be experiencing everything and with every symptom I thank God because symptoms mean my baby is growing. It is still very early and I am trying to stay relaxed and trust that everything will progress normally.

I have had one appointment so far to confirm pregnancy. They had me take another test and did some blood work. My next appointment is on February 20th!

I got to tell my sisters yesterday! It was so nice to be able to share that with them after keeping to myself for a whole week.
